Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Joann Doan

Joann Doan, style consultant at Senhoa and fashion blogger at lovefashion | livelife

Stilettogals, there's nothing quite like that moment when you meet a true shoe solemate - another fabulous blogger who shares your passion for stilettos and documents her daily ensemble looks which is just the kindred spirit I've met in Joann Doan. Joann is a style blogger at lovefashion | livelife and also works as a style consultant for the non-profit organization, Senhoa. Today she tells me what a day in her heels is like, both at Senhoa and on her blog and a few of her more memorable fashion mishaps.

Hillary Gadsby: As a style consultant for Senhoa, can you tell us a little bit about what you do there and what the organization does?

Joann Doan: Senhoa is a non-profit organization that fights to bring awareness to end human trafficking. They provide income generating opportunities for the survivors that have been affected by modern day slavery by producing and selling handmade jewelry crafted by the vulnerable people and survivors affected by it. "The evolution of fashion is a triumphant story of freedom and female empowerment."

As the Stylist at Senhoa, I have the privilege of working with models and fashion bloggers to share these beautifully crafted pieces and to share their story. I handle blogger collaborations to bring awareness to the fashion community and style models for fashion shows and photo shoots.

HG: You’re also a blogger at your own fashion blog lovefashion | livelife. What motivated you to become a style blogger?

JD: I started lovefashion | livelife because I wanted to have an outlet to express my personal style and fashion likes/dislikes. It quickly became an online fashion diary that documented my day to day looks and fashion adventures.

HG: How would you describe your personal sense of style? Any fashion mishaps from the past you look back on and cringe thinking about?

JD: My style gravitates towards a good mix of at-the-moment trends with classic investment pieces. Effortless, chic and polished is my go-to when dressing for any occasion. Haha - I have so many mishaps now that I look back! But to me, fashion and style is all about evolution and growth. I went through all the awkward phases including when I couldn't get over my baby blue Dickies with a matching metal belt look and I had those long thin “antenna” looking bangs that split my face in half. Those were all back in my "I'm too sexy" days, you know?

HG: Name one person you look up to that inspires you.

JD: My mother. She single handedly raised me and my sister and not once did I ever feel as if I lacked anything. I admire her strength, her compassion and her heart. Style wise, she’s always stayed true to what she loves. She knows her classics and always reminds me that trends come and go, so I should always invest in long lasting quality pieces. She remains a constant inspiration.

HG: What kind of shoe are you and why?

JD: [This might change if you ask me next month!] Nude Strappy Zara Heels – Understated Statement shoe that’s a MUST HAVE in any shoe collection. It’s a flexible shoe that can work with any outfit/trend, day/night. The color and design give it a classic look and the ankle strap gives it a bold vibe.

HG: What are your three biggest passions?

JD: 1. Shoes – borderline obsession!

2. Fashion/Style – It allows me to speak without speaking. “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”  -Rachel Zoe

3. Senhoa – have purpose and fight for good. "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
